It is Thanksgiving Monday. The turkey people have been cooking since yesterday. The rest of us have a decision to make: cook, order in, or find somebody’s aunty to invite us over. If your plan is none of the above, here is the alternative. A jerk chicken dinner, done right, with festival and a Ting, priced out by city across the GTA.

The basket is the same everywhere: a jerk chicken dinner with rice and peas, one festival, and one Ting or equivalent. The ranges below come from published online menus checked this week. No single restaurant is the story here. The story is what the same dinner costs depending on which side of the GTA you buy it on. Delivery-app prices can run higher than the counter, and holiday hours are unpredictable, so call ahead before you roll out.

Scarborough: $13 to $18

Scarborough remains the value capital. Full jerk chicken meals with a drink included start around $13 at the budget end, and a standard dinner with festival and a Ting lands in the mid teens. This is the part of the GTA where a full, filling holiday dinner still costs less than a fast-food combo in some neighborhoods.

If you are feeding a crowd today without cooking, this is where the math works best. Nobody in the GTA stretches a dollar on Caribbean food like Scarborough does

Brampton: $17 to $23

Brampton sits a notch above Scarborough. The typical basket, dinner plus festival plus Ting, runs from the high teens to about $23. You are paying for bigger sit-down portions and restaurants that people drive across the city for.

For a Thanksgiving where you want to feel like you went out rather than ordered in, Brampton’s mid-range pricing hits the sweet spot between value and occasion.

Mississauga: $16 to $25

Mississauga has the widest spread on this list. Smaller-format jerk chicken meals start around $16, while large dinners with all the extras push toward $25. Festival pricing varies wildly here, so the final basket depends heavily on where you land.

The takeaway: Mississauga rewards shoppers. Check the menu before you commit, because the gap between the cheapest and priciest basket in this city is nearly ten dollars.

Etobicoke: $13 to $19

Etobicoke quietly competes with Scarborough on value. Large jerk chicken meals go for around $15, and basic dinners with rice and peas start near $13. Add festival and a drink and most baskets land under $19.

This is the sleeper pick of the index. The west end of Toronto proper delivers near-Scarborough prices without the cross-city drive for anyone already out west.

Toronto: $20 to $28

Downtown and midtown Toronto is the priciest territory. Boneless jerk chicken dinners run around $22 before you add a drink, and half-chicken dinners push $24. A full basket with festival and a Ting lands between $20 and $28 depending on the spot.

You are paying downtown rent prices on the menu, but the portions and the marinade at the top end justify it. If Thanksgiving dinner is your one big meal out this month, this is where the extra dollars buy the fullest plate.

The Verdict

The spread is real: roughly $13 to $28 for the same basic dinner, depending on where in the GTA you buy it. Scarborough and Etobicoke win on price. Brampton wins on the sit-down experience per dollar. Mississauga has the deals if you shop around. Toronto costs the most, full stop.

The bigger point: a full, satisfying holiday dinner for under $25 in most of the GTA, no turkey required, no dishes after. For everyone who looked at the Thanksgiving cooking industrial complex and said “not this year,” the jerk chicken index says you made the right call.

One honest caveat before you go: it is a holiday Monday. Caribbean spots keep their own hours, and more than a few will be closed or running short hours today. Call first. Nothing ruins a no-cook Thanksgiving faster than a locked door and an empty stomach.
